Concerns About Children

  • Have you noticed changes in your child's behavior, such as withdrawal, acting out, or mood changes?

  • Has your child recently experienced a major life event, such as parental separation/divorce, relocation, or trauma?

  • Have your child's teachers discussed concerns about your child's academic performance or behavior at school?

  • Does your child need an IQ, learning disability, or ADHD evaluation?

These and other concerns often lead parents to seek counseling or testing for their children. If you think your child may need testing, please see testing for more information.

For young children, the recommended counseling treatment is play therapy. Just as adults express themselves through words, children express themselves through their play. Play therapy is used for young children, and is effective in addressing emotional as well as behavioral concerns. I will work with your child to understand his or her play, and will use play to help your child work through various emotions and challenges.

Older children and adolescents will benefit from individual therapy that allows them to talk through their concerns and recognize their emotions and difficulties. In some cases, I may recommend family therapy as an adjunct to individual therapy.
